LCUP sends off CITHM students to Thailand; seized the first internship opportunity abroad after the pandemic

December 12, 2023

La Consolacion University Philippines bid safe travels to College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) students bound to Thailand for a student internship exposure.

After three years, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) finally lifted its temporary suspension of the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP) in line with the lifting of the state public health emergency and the fewer restrictions on inbound and outbound travelers. With this, the University, through the CITHM Department, took the opportunity to secure a permit from CHED and other concerned government offices. The efforts came back with a CHED endorsement and news that LCUP is the country's first institution to acquire CHED-SIAP approval in this post-pandemic time.

Six students from CITHM, consisting of four students under the Tourism Management Program and two students from the Hospitality Management Program, flew to Phuket, Thailand, on December 12, 2023, to complete their on-the-job training in The Slate, Phuket Pearl Resort, Nai Yang Beach. The students, namely, Cathleen Khate Evangelista, Christian Claude Galvez, Trizxie Jannelle Joaquin, Kaye Chrystine Orata, Charlaine Santos, and Karl Vigil Valencia, underwent an initial interview with the said host training establishment and will be staying in Thailand until May 30, 2024.

On December 11, the six CITHM students visited the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Divina Ann M. Eusebio, and the Office of the University President, Sr. Niceta M. Vargas, OSA, Ph.D. with their Dean, Prof. Fe Corazon C. Villanueva for a blessing prior to their scheduled flight. Sr. Nicet sat with the students and chatted about their preparations for this milestone in their lives. She also sent off the students with a prayer for guidance, protection, and success in their internship abroad.
