LCUP FOREIGN LANGUAGE CENTER OFFERS TESOL SUMMER PROGRAM



The LCUP Foreign Language Center, headed by Dr. Enrico F. Rosales as Program Director, launched its 120hour Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) summer program on April 22 which is aimed at teachers, students and other professionals interested in becoming effective English instructors. The trainings will make use of modules and materials designed by qualified experts which includes topics such as Theories and Concepts in Linguistics, Trends and Issues in Language Teaching, and Syllabus and Curriculum Design. Trainers Dr. Luisito Nanquil and Mr. Bryan Pobe will be leading the discussions and activities which will employ taskbased language instruction as well as innovative strategies and approaches in teaching. Upon completion of the program, the trainees will receive a TESOL certificate of completion, a Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) certificate, and a certificate of recognition for practice teaching. The first batch of TESOL students finished their training on April 26 and subsequent classes are scheduled to run until the last week of May. Aside from the TESOL program, the Foreign Language Center will be including Nihongo, Korean, Mandarin and French lessons in their future offerings. With the launch of the TESOL summer program, the University is hopeful to produce instructors who are equipped with the necessary skills to be globally competitive in teaching English.
