In line with the institution’s goal to produce research-oriented graduates, the Student Welfare Services (SWS) Office hosted a webinar on Ethics in Conducting Research to students of Graduate Studies (GS) Department, January 3, 2021 via Google Meet and YouTube live stream.

The said webinar was organized in response to the result of the Career Needs Assessment Survey conducted by the SWS Office to the GS students. A seminar on research was the most suggested topic by the students.

There were 309 students who participated in the webinar through Google Meet and more than 300 viewers streamed through the YouTube live. The Dean of the Graduate Studies Department Dr. Enrico Rosales welcomed the participants in the opening remarks.

Certain areas in research ethics were discussed by the guest speakers during the webinar. The first speaker was the Research and Ethics Committee Chair Mr. Gerald Caoili. He tackled the Basic Research Ethics Principles, the importance of Ethics, Ethical Conducts, how ethics were violated, Plagiarism, Informed Consent, and the likes. The second guest speaker, Vice President for Research, Publications, and Linkages Dr. Ma. Evangeline L. Paraan, discussed Research Ethics Considerations, the role of the Research Ethics Committee, the LCUP Research Agenda, and the process of how the paper was being evaluated by the Research Ethics Committee.

The webinar was ended with an enthusiastic open forum with the guest speaker
