UNIVERSITY OBSERVED ASH WEDNESDAY AND RITES OF SUNOG SALA

February 16 and 17, 2021

The La Consolacion University Philippines conducted Ash Wednesday Mass preceded by Shrove Tuesday or Sunog Sala in preparation for the Lenten Season, February 16 and 17, 2021 at the La Consolacion University Philippines – Main Campus.

Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of prayer and fasting that falls on the first day of lent. The ashes being used in the said ceremony were made out of palms from the last year’s celebration of Palm Sunday burned during the Rites of Sunog Sala. Read More ...

Both ceremonies were presided by the University Chaplain Fr. Cornelio Jaranilla, Jr. OCD. The Shrove Tuesday started with a Procession Silencio or Procession of Silence participated by the LCUP community. Employees brought their old palms for the procession and ritual.

During the Ash Wednesday, reporting employees were encouraged to bring their own small containers so they can carry home blessed ashes to family members that are not allowed to attend the mass due to CoViD-19 protocols. Hide
