LCUP MOURNS THE LOSS OF COLLEGE PROFESSOR, DR. SIGUA
August 2, 2020
The LCUP community was deeply saddened with the news of the untimely passing of one of its most beloved professors, Dr. Rhoderick M. Sigua, on August 2, Sunday, at the age of 55.
Dr. Sigua or “Kaputol” as his friends and colleagues fondly call him, had served as a faculty at the University for two meaningful decades. He was bestowed the 20- Year Service Award during the Personnel Day celebration last December 2019.
The business instructor was best known to his students and co-teachers for his jovial personality, but behind his playful antics was a kind heart which was greatly appreciated by the people around him.
“I’ve worked with Dr. Sigua for 20 long years from the time LCUP was still URC. He was very punctual in coming to school and has never been late even in the submission of requirements. He was called ‘Mr. Congeniality’ for being such a jolly person,” reminisced Prof. Emma Asistio, fellow 20-Year Service Awardee. “He is very considerate in giving grades. He is very strict but also kind and loving. Dr. Eric, or ‘Kaputol’, was a true model instructor, very professional and committed to his career. He was very popular and well-loved by his students. He even gave financial assistance to those who cannot afford to enroll early due to monetary problems. We have a lot of moments together. For my colleague, friend, ‘Kaputol’ and kumpare, we will truly miss you. Rest in peace.”
Prof. Elizabeth Medina, one of Dr. Sigua’s colleagues, also had fond memories of the departed instructor. “Dr. Eric Sigua is a very good friend. He was so vocal. He was a very funny person and there was never a dull moment with him. He was someone with good taste when it comes to his personal things but he never brags about what he had. ‘Kaputol’, most of all, is a Godly person and I am sure that he now joins God in heaven. A very good person who will stay in my heart forever.”
A memorial service was offered on August 4 at Student Activity Center for the eternal repose of the soul of Dr. Sigua. He was interred on Wednesday, August 5, at the Blue Madonna Memorial Garden in Apalit, Pampanga.
