OVP-RPL HOSTS A SERIES OF ACTION RESEARCH SEMINAR-WRITESHOP FOR BED FACULTY
Febuary/August/September 2023
The Office of the Vice President for Research, Publications, and Linkages (OVP-RPL) provided a series of Action Research Seminar-Writeshop to the faculty members of the Basic Education Department (BED) from Nursery to Grade 12, aiming to help them address academic challenges and explore innovative and creative strategies to solve them.
The series of seminar-write shops were clustered into three. The Grade 12 Senior High School Faculty held their write-shop on September 8, 2023, at the BED Audio-Visual Room, the Grade 11 Senior High School Faculty on August 8, 2023, at Doña Estefania Building, Barasoain Campus, and the Nursery to Grade 10 Faculty on February 27-28, 2023 at the Rambutan Hall, BarCIE International Center.
Divided into two sessions, Dr. Mark Rey C. Santos, VP-RPL, and Ms. Mariefe B. Cruz, Research Officer, tackled on the first session the Research Process and Topic Identification, Context and Rationale, Action Research Questions, and Proposed Innovation, Intervention or Strategy. BED Faculty members, who already grouped themselves according to their respective subject areas, were initially tasked to start from formulating their titles down to their proposed innovation, intervention, or strategy. To keep on pace with the working progress of the participants, a Google Classroom was created where collaborative working documents, sheets, and other necessary materials were uploaded.
Before proceeding to the next part of the program, the groups were allowed to present their initially crafted Action Research Proposals. Various topics surfaced, such as Effective Strategies for monitoring students, Campaign Projects, Technological Curiosity, and Fact-checking.
The second session covered Methods, Work Plan and Timeline, Plans for Dissemination and Utilization, Results and Discussions, Conclusions, and Recommendations discussed by Ms. Cruz together with Dr. Santos and Mr. Patrick Bryan Teodoro, the University Statistician, in the areas of Statistical Treatment, Data Analysis, Sampling Techniques and Procedures.
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Dr. Santos, Ms. Cruz, and Mr. Teodoro after the sessions. Participants were tasked to accomplish their Action Research and submit them in the G-Classroom. The OVP-RPL, thus, opened its consultation service to the BED Faculty groups throughout the refinement of their research. A potential opportunity for a BED Faculty Research Colloquium will be explored to feature the teachers’ completed Action Research.
