COM PAYS HOMAGE TO ITS SILENT TEACHERS THROUGH A BURIAL CEREMONY
September 14, 2023
A Holy Mass was held to honor and give reverence to the LCUP Silent Teachers, the human cadavers examined by the Doctor of Medicine students, to gain an actual and hands-on understanding of human anatomy, on September 14, 2023, at the LCUP Chapel. The burial rites that followed took place at the Barasoain Catholic Cemetery led by the College of Medicine (COM) and Integral Evangelization Program (IEP) departments.
The prayers for the commendation of the dying and the dead were led by the University Chaplains, Fr. Yohanes Valentinus Ratusao Koten and Fr. Hendrikus Haju Liwun at the LCUP Anatomy Lab before the burial. The Dean of COM, Dr. Ma. Cristina Zulueta, and the University President, Sr. Niceta M. Vargas, OSA, Ph.D., along with the LCUP Religious Community, COM faculty, personnel, students, and a few of the university maintenance staff, sprinkled holy water and sent off their prayers over the remains of the Silent Teachers.
A funeral procession was held within the campus grounds. Students from Basic Education and College Departments who were present lined up outside the Anatomy Lab and bowed their heads when the procession passed by as a sign of respect to the Silent Teachers.
The burial rites continued at the cemetery where the COM community paid their last respects by sprinkling holy water and offering flowers and prayers for the eternal repose of their Silent Teachers.
