The College of Medicine (COM) – Department of Surgery conducted Feel the Lumps, Save your Bumps; Be the Breast You Can Be – a free online lay forum on Breast Myths and Breast Cancer, March 3, 2021 via Zoom and Facebook live.

According to Dr. Hilda Sagayaga, the Department of Surgery Coordinator, the topic of the webinar is very timely and important to discuss because the Philippines has the highest incidences of Breast Cancer in the Southeast Asia.

Guest speakers from the field of obstetrics and gynecology were invited to further dive in the topic. The first speaker Dr. Bianca Katrina Villanueva focused on answering the common breast myths and questions. She is one of the professors in the university. As Dr. Villanueva answered breast myths and questions, she also gave pieces of advice on how to properly seek medical help and encouraged the attendees to monthly conduct a self-examination at home.

On the other hand, the second speaker Dr. Maria Cristina Zulueta – Dean of COM, talked about her journey on surviving breast cancer and how it affected her life. She also shared the treatment options for breast cancer.

Before the online discussion ended, various support groups for breast cancer and its contact details were promoted. The said support groups are committed to help fight breast cancer and help breast cancer patients. Hide
