LCUP ENTERS LENTEN SEASON 2023
February 22, 2023
The University began to commemorate Jesus Christ on the cross in his death as the Season of Lent officially commenced. Through the Integral Evangelization Program under the Office of the Vice President for Religious Formation and Extension, the Rite of Sunog Sala or Shrove Tuesday was conducted on February 21, 2023, followed by the Rite of Imposition of Ashes or Ash Wednesday on February 22, 2023, in Our Lady of Consolation Chapel, LCUP Main Campus.
The Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that finishes at dusk on Holy Thursday. LCUP, as a Catholic institution one with the church, annually observes Lent by administering spiritual activities anchored to the said annual Christian tradition, such as the
Via Crucis or Station of the Cross and Lenten Recollection.
During the Rite of Sunog Sala, a Holy Mass was presided prior to the burning of the ashes. A pile of palm leaves from the previous Palm Sunday was lit and blessed. The following day, a series of Eucharistic Liturgy was presided over, giving way to the Rite of Imposition of Ashes. Students from Basic Education Department Kinder to Senior High School, College Department, and the teaching and non-personnel gathered to pray, reflect, and renew their relationship with God for a meaningful Lent observance.
