Spearheaded by the Hermano Mayor, Doctor Joseph Espino, and Hermana Mayor, Dr. Olivia Almario, La Consolacion University Philippines (LCUP) gathered and celebrated the feast of Saint Augustine and St. Monica last August 27, 2024 at Kalinangan Auditorium.

The festivities, known as Pistang Agustino 2024, began with opening remarks from Sister Niceta M. Vargas, OSA, PhD, the university president. Sister Niceta encouraged the LCUP community to embrace the teachings of St. Augustine and to incorporate these values into their daily lives. She also invited everyone to enjoy the day’s activities, which had been thoughtfully organized by the Hermano and Hermana Mayor.

One of the highlights of the celebration was a surprise dance performance by the Community of Sisters of LCUP, who captivated the audience with their rendition of “There’s a Kind of Hush” and “Girl in the Mirror,” earning enthusiastic applause from LCUP employees.

The festivities continued with a lively Karaoke Singing Competition that drew numerous participants from various departments, each performing their favorite karaoke songs. After a series of entertaining performances, the judges selected six winners from a total of 15 contestants. Mr. Julius Juarez from the Basic Education Department secured sixth place, followed by Mr. Jeffrey Lopez in fifth, and Mr. Renzlee Cruz in fourth. The top three winners were all from the Basic Education Department: Ms. Nerizza Valenzuela took third place, Ms. Bernadette Alva from the Grade 11 Faculty placed second, and Ms. Jorraine Cruz, the Coordinator of Student Activities, claimed first place. All participants received appreciation gifts from the Hermano and Hermana Mayor.

Additionally, Mr. Kenneth Lontoc and Ms. Le-Mairre Manalaysay engaged the staff with trivia questions about the life of St. Augustine, enhancing everyone’s knowledge of the university’s patron saint.

The celebration also featured a delicious lunch prepared by Dr. Olivia Almario and Dr. Joseph Espino, fostering a sense of community among attendees.

For the afternoon leg of the celebration, Rev. Father Frederick Commendador, OSA, former president of the University of San Agustin from 2012- delivered a thoughtful talk on building a community of friends. He also led the mass in honor of St. Augustine and St. Monica, reflecting on the importance of friendship and community spirit.

The event concluded with a special musical performance by Barasoain Camarata, leaving attendees with a sense of joy and camaraderie as they celebrated the legacy of St. Augustine and St. Monica together.
