Dalawampu’t Lima: LCUP looks back on its 25-year journey as a University in its 86th Founding Anniversary
December 1-9, 2023
On top of commemorating its 86th Founding Anniversary, this year was even more special as the institution celebrated its 25 Silver Years as a University. As an annual tradition, a week-long full of activities honoring this dual milestone was launched from December 1 to 9, 2023.
On December 4, 1997, after two formal attempts and four years of preparation, the institution was officially converted from Regina Carmeli College (RCC) to the University of Regina Carmeli (URC). Later, because of a congregational decision that schools run by the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation carry one name, the University of Regina Carmeli was officially renamed La Consolacion University Philippines on January 8, 2011.
This year’s celebration featured the main event, a moment of recognition and commemoration, on December 4, 2023, at the Kalinangan Auditorium. In thanksgiving and gratitude, a Eucharistic Celebration was held by Rev. Msgr. Pablo S. Legaspi. This was followed by a formal program officiated by the University President, Sr. Niceta M. Vargas, OSA, Ph.D. To reminisce the 25-year journey of the institution as a University, a video presentation entitled "Dalawampu’t Lima: LCUP’s 25th Anniversary as a University in its 86th Founding Anniversary” unraveled the history of LCUP filled with trials, thriving, and living up to its University status from 1997 up to the present time.
As a tribute to the pillars and leaders of the university, Sr. Niceta M. Vargas, OSA, Ph.D., together with the Superior General, Sr. Eden L. Gicana, OSA, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Atty. Dominador Buhain, and the Coordinator of the LCUP Religious Community, Sr. Gemma P. Valenzuela, OSA, awarded plaques of recognition to significant personalities with invaluable contributions throughout the 25-year journey. These honorable people included Sr. Carmeli Marie V. Catan, OSA, Ph.D., Sr. Editha S. Zerna, OSA, Ph.D., Atty. Dominador Buhain, Dr. Reynaldo C. Cruz, Dr. Catalino P. Rivera, Dr. Angela L. Pesayco, Dr. Ophelia O. Joven, Ms. Madeline B. Perilla, Dr. Jaime P. Pulumbarit, Sr. Imelda Mora, OSA, PhD, Atty. Sabino R. Padilla Jr, Dr. Belen B. De Jesus, and Dr. Alvin V. Nuqui.
Sr. Carmeli Marie V. Catan, OSA, Ph.D., took the virtual stage afterward to deliver a heartfelt response on behalf of the awardees. Closing the formal program, the LCUP Community stood as one as they sang the LCUP Hymn together.
